The rain was still falling steadily when we woke up yesterday morning. We began to consider the possibility of having to head south before we'd had the chance to explore these parts. We were in luck though and by mid morning, the rain had stopped and the sky was beginning to clear. It gave us the chance to catch up on some necessities like going to the bank and checking out bus timetables.
After lunch, Paul took the bike out to explore the area around Luang Namtha. First stop was a temple up on a hill which provided a nice view overlooking the town. At the temple, he met a Swiss-German called Klaus. Klaus provided Paul with a map which showed a nice path through the rice paddies and to the waterfall. Klaus didn't recommend the waterfall, describing it as more of a trickle. So, armed with the map, Paul headed to the rice fields where he saw men and women of all ages working. While passing through some of the small villages, young children popped out of everywhere shouting "sabaidee" (hello in Laos) and waving. Some women were washing themselves in the brown river water and others were washing their clothes. Everyone seemed happy, enjoying what they were doing.

The rain held off for the remainder of the day and our chances of heading further north the next day were looking more positive.
