It was another chilly morning at Cuc Phuong as we got up to leave. It had rained overnight and was drizzling as we set off. The landscape on the outskirts of the Park was grey and bleak and we wondered how different the place would look on a sunny day.

We knew we had about 40km ahead to get to Ninh Binh. We found there we no road markers this time to indicate where we were heading but with help from some local people, we worked out that we were heading in the right direction. We rode through some lovely limestone karst landscape, surrounded by water and rice fields. Unfortunately it was just too wet at times to stop so there aren't many photos.

We arrived in Ninh Binh early in the afternoon. It was still raining and we pulled up to the guesthouse we had booked to stay at, looking something like drowned rats. The man who greeted us was kind enough to help us dry off the bags and store the bikes off the street.
The accommodation is very comfortable and once we were clean and dry, we ventured out into the rain again for a late lunch. The streets were busy and lots of shops were selling warm puffy jackets which were very tempting. The plus side of the colder weather is that we do feel a bit more Christmassy! We had dinner at the guesthouse and feel buoyed by the forecast of a sunny day tomorrow.
